MSW Psychotherapist
🌀 About Us
Divergent Path Wellness is a values-driven, trauma-informed group therapy practice offering affirming, identity-conscious care in Charlottesville and across Virginia. We specialize in working with neurodivergent, LGBTQIA+, and otherwise marginalized folks navigating trauma, religious harm, identity development, and the emotional impact of systems that weren’t built for them. Our approach is grounded in evidence-based care and informed by lived experience.
🧠 Who We’re Looking For
We’re hiring pre-licensed MSW therapists who are working toward LCSW licensure in Virginia. This is a great fit for social workers who care deeply about the communities we serve and want to grow in a workplace that balances accountability with real flexibility.
We’re a team of unconventional, scrappy, honest humans. We believe professionalism means ethics and competence—not a perfectly curated business casual performance. Anime t-shirts? Sensory tools? Scripts for hard conversations? Bring them. Don’t have a favorite anime? That’s not required—the point is that we want you to show up as you, and that includes the way you think, communicate, and move through the world.
We're especially excited to connect with clinicians who are reflective, values-driven, and ready to grow within a collaborative, feedback-informed environment.
💼 What You’ll Receive
Regular individual and group supervision with an LCSW
Referrals that are a mutually good-fit for clinicians and clients — We want you to do work that lights you up—connecting your clinical interests, lived experience, and particular strengths and talents
Sustainable caseload expectations (20 client hours/week at full capacity)
W-2 employment, with tax withholding and access to:
Employer-paid retirement (2% IRA)
Health insurance for eligible staff
Paid time off (2 weeks PTO + 7 holidays)
Hybrid flexibility: see clients via telehealth and in-person, with 1-2 days per week expected in the Charlottesville office
Administrative support for scheduling, billing, and credentialing
Opportunities for collaboration, consultation, and community engagement
A team culture that values being human, not perfect
💸 Compensation
This role is paid on a commission basis (50% of session revenue). Most sessions are billed at $140-155; Reduced rate sessions (accommodated for in the estimated salary range) are also provided to promote accessibility.
At a full caseload of 20 clinical client-facing hours per week over 49 working weeks (accounting for PTO and holidays), annual earnings typically range from $68,000–$73,000, depending on client mix. One hour of non-clinical work—such as documentation, outreach, or professional development—is expected for every clinical hour. This time is included in the commission rate, not paid separately, and priority is placed on timely documentation.
✅ What We’re Looking For
MSW from an accredited program
Eligibility for LCSW supervision in Virginia
Residency in Virginia (for legal and tax reasons)
Commitment to affirming care for LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent clients
Strong self-awareness, follow-through, and curiosity about growth
A presence that’s thoughtful, grounded, and able to show up with care (not polish)
✨ We Especially Welcome Applications From
Clinicians with lived experience of neurodivergence, queerness, trans identity, disability, racial or ethnic marginalization, or spiritual/religious harm. These experiences are not just welcome—they’re an asset to the work. We support our clinicians in bringing their full selves to the therapy room, and we believe the work gets better when we do.
